Running has always been part of the history of humans. Our ancestors ran mostly to hunt down prey which were faster than they were. Later on in history, there were other uses for running that included running competitions and for exercise.
There are various types of running that are used for fitness, competition or for leisure, which include:
- Sprinting - a fast short-distance running
- Medium and Long Distance Running - a paced running over a distance for running events like track, cross country, road running and a marathon
- Recreational Running - leisure activities like sports or for fitness in the form of jogging, which is a slow running
If you are new to running, it is advisable to start off slowly by gradually increasing the time and distance according to your progress. You will also need a good pair of running shoes to cushion and absorb the impact to your feet and knees.
