Lose Weight By Running
Running is a great way to lose weight, even if you have a significant amount of weight to lose and/or if you have never exercised before. Walking is the first step towards running. Once you can comfortably walk at a fast pace for around 30 minutes, start running 1 minute and walking the next and so on.You can easily transition your workout routine from nothing, to walking, to a combination of walking and running, and finally to a full running workout. Which of these will help you lose the most weight? Definitely the full running workout however the buildup is very important.
Firstly, you should have a checkup with your doctor and get the "ok" to start a workout routine. This is more important if you have not been exercising regularly over the past few years. You may be thinking "What makes running superior to other exercises when it comes to losing weight?". Running is regarded as a high intensity exercise and is highly effective in increasing your heart rate. The higher your heart rate and the longer you sustain this higher heart rate, the fitter you will become and the more weight you will lose.
What you eat is just as important as the exercise you do. The more you fun, the more fuel your body will require. It is important to fuel your body properly to ensure your workouts are as efficient as possible. Don't take any notice of low-carbohydrate diets and all that other rubbish. A running diet is simply ensuring your body gets enough carbohydrates (preferably complex) to replenish glycogen in your muscles. Protein is also necessary for recovery/muscle development and fats should play some part in your diet.
The time it will take to lose weight will vary from person to person. From personal experience, I was able to notice a difference within a month and kept on losing weight for an additional 6 months. Keep in mind that how much weight you will lose is simple: the amount of weight you will gain/lose is the amount of calories consumed less the amount of calories burned. Generally, just start eating healthier and you will not have to worry about any complex formulas or tracking how much calories you are consuming- to me that is boring and I still indulge in foods that I probably shouldn't, but do so guilt free knowing I will burn it off in tomorrows workout.
Remember that consistency is everything. You should aim to run 5 times a week and have 2 days where you do no exercise at all, allowing your body to recover. Only when your workouts are consistent is when you will notice a difference in your weight and experience the full benefits of running. Also, try to keep your workouts challenging and interesting. Don't pick a boring route and run it day after day- that's not what running is about. Have a dozen or more different running routes of varying intensity featuring sprint sections, hills and bush/forest runs. The bottom line is that you don't want to get your body used to the same workout over and over because it will become less effective over time in increasing your running fitness.
Overall running is an effective and natural way to lose weight and anyone can easily get started with a little bit of enthusiasm and patience. Often people continue to run after they have lost their desired weight because of the many other benefits running has on the human mind or body. Alternatively, as I do, people just run because it makes them feel good. In closing words I will give you one of the best lessons I have learned over the years I have been running: think about the big picture, you will have days when you question why you run and other days when it is cold and rainy and you just want to stay at home. Don't think about individual workouts, instead focus on all the benefits you are getting out of running and the positive influences it has had and will continue to have on your life.
